University of Central Florida: recommended laptop specification
No — this is a recommendation, not a requirement. University of Central Florida publishes computing guidance, but no specific configuration. You are not obliged to buy a machine that matches it.
The published specification
Operating system: Windows 7 or newer, or Mac OS X or newer. This is UCF's own current wording and it is visibly out of date - the same page still lists Adobe Flash Player, Microsoft Silverlight and RealPlayer among its required plug-ins, all of which have been discontinued. Treat it as a floor UCF has not refreshed, not as current 2026 guidance.
Also listed on the same page
Internet access; a supported web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome or Safari); word-processing software; required plug-ins including Adobe PDF Reader. UCF adds that students acquiring a computer are "strongly advised to consider a notebook computer with a wireless networking card".
