University of Florida: laptop requirements
Yes — a conforming laptop is required. University of Florida (Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering) publishes a minimum specification students are required to meet: 16GB RAM, 1TB storage.

Operating system: Windows 11 Pro / Education (available free for UF students). Page states: "Operating systems other than Microsoft Windows are allowed. However, in most cases, a Windows-based operating system will be the best choice... Mac users will need to be able to run the Windows OS."

What this specification rules out
Touchscreen-only devices — "A physical keyboard and pointing device (mouse) is necessary. Students should not rely entirely on a touchscreen device". Chromebook/iPad are NOT named on this page.
