Suite-style: the complete dorm packing list

Bedrooms sharing a private or semi-private bathroom (and sometimes a common room). Less hauling to a communal bath, more shared-space coordination.

📏 Bed size: nearly every US dorm uses an extra-long twin (Twin XL) mattress — standard twin sheets won't fit. Buy Twin XL, and double-check your school's housing page for the rare exception.

What's different for a suite-style

Bedding

Almost every US dorm uses an extra-long twin (Twin XL) mattress — standard twin sheets will NOT fit. This is the #1 thing students get wrong.

Bathroom & shower

In a traditional hall you walk to a communal bathroom — pack for the trip. In a suite you split supplies with suitemates.

Storage & organization

Dorm rooms are small. Vertical and under-bed space is where you win.

Laundry

You're doing your own laundry now, probably in a shared machine room.

Tech & power

Outlets are scarce and far from the bed. Power management matters more than you'd think.

Study & desk

Your desk is your office. Set it up to actually work.

Mini-fridge & snacks

Most halls allow a small fridge + microwave (check wattage limits). Coordinate ONE of each per room.

⚠️ Before you buy: check your school's official housing page for prohibited items (some ban candles, halogen lamps, certain appliances, surge-protector types) and appliance wattage/size limits. Find your school →
